PEAK has taken an innovative effort to create awareness on health and hygiene by facilitating the people to make home/kitchen garden. People are trained in organic farming and they are motivated to nurture their vegetable garden without the use of chemical pesticides and fertilizer. On the other hand they are encouraged to use their kitchen waste and degradable waste for gardening. Vegetable seeds are distributed to individual families and its progress is monitored by the health workers.
Usually the tribal people who cannot afford to buy vegetables on a regular basis have a very simple food. They occasionally make curry with enough vegetables. The main purpose of the home garden is to provide the particular family with fresh vegetables on a regular basis with no cost. Along with this many other good things also happen in the process. As the garden is made beside or behind the home, the place is automatically cleaned and is kept neat and tidy. It is inexpensive and rich in nourishment. The regular consumption of nutritional food builds their immunity power and it prevents them from many ordinary diseases.
